Galactic ASKAP Project Storage

The Galactic ASKAP Survey (GASKAP) is one of the nine major survey science projects for the Australian SKA Pathfinder telescope (ASKAP). This survey will study the distribution of atomic and molecular gas within our own Milky Way galaxy, and the nearby galaxies: the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds. The data will reveal the evolution of gas from its diffuse atomic state to its dense star-forming state. The survey will also give unprecedented detail of the physical processes involving in galaxy interaction, by probing the hydrogen gas associated with the Milky Way, its neighbours and the tail of material indicating the interaction of the galaxies. GASKAP will deliver atomic hydrogen (HI) and hydroxyl (OH) data cubes across the Milky Way and Magellanic System.
